Thick-walled lead crystal in a classic column form. The Combourg pattern features deep prismatic cuts across the body, producing the sharp light refraction that defines quality crystal. At 29.5 cm tall with a 13 cm opening, it carries tall stems or a loose bunch with equal ease. A substantial piece — 3.5 kg of properly dense crystal.

A Cristal d'Arques Combourg lead crystal vase, made in France in the 1970s. The Arques-la-Bataille glassworks is one of France's longest-standing crystal houses, producing machine-pressed and hand-cut crystal to a consistent standard across its classic pattern ranges.

• Hand wash only — dishwasher cycles will cloud the cut crystal over time
• Use warm water and a small amount of washing-up liquid; rinse thoroughly
• Dry immediately with a soft lint-free cloth to preserve the clarity of the crystal
• Avoid abrasive cloths or scouring pads — they will scratch the polished facets
