Item Type: Pre-Loved
An Art Deco ashtray for the desk or the side table — a weighted piece of stone that holds the corner of a room as much as anything set in it.
Carved onyx in a green-toned body, paired with a bronze mortar base. The stone carries the natural banding and translucence onyx is prized for, no two pieces alike. The bronze grounds it with weight and a warm patina that has deepened with age.
Art Deco onyx and bronze objects date to the 1920s and 30s, when the hard geometry of the style met luxe materials — marble, onyx, bronze, chrome. Desk pieces of this kind were made across European workshops as functional objects finished to the standard of the decorative arts of the period.
