Item Type: Pre-Loved
A small terracotta oval set on a windowsill, a pantry shelf, a bathroom ledge — present without asking for attention.
Hand-formed terracotta in a low oval form. A drainage hole at the base makes it practical as a cachepot or everyday holder — sponges, soap, a few stems. The walls are unglazed, and the surface reads closer to sand-cast concrete than to ceramic: matte, granular, faintly uneven under the hand. Marks and abrasion from decades of use have settled into a genuine patina — no chips, no cracks. This is wabi-sabi in the proper sense: the wear is the object's value, not a deduction from it. At 24 × 14 × 7 cm, it sits low and stays out of the way.
Italian terracotta of this period was produced across a network of small regional workshops — principally in Tuscany, Umbria, and the Mezzogiorno — using local clay bodies and traditional hand-forming methods that had changed little since the Renaissance.
