Item Type: Pre-Loved
Two decks of cards in a burgundy leather case, made to be brought out for an evening of play and put away as an object in its own right.
The case is gilt-tooled burgundy leather, opening to hold two full decks. Each card carries the Cartier monogram and gilded edges. The two decks inside are unused — still in their wrapping, with one plastic seal removed where it had perished. The leather shows scratching to the front from storage, visible in the photographs. The interior is clean and the cards have never been played.
Les Must de Cartier playing cards were produced only between 1972 and 1976, the early years of the maison's Les Must line that brought the Cartier name to leather goods, lighters, and accessories beyond fine jewellery. The cards were made to gaming standard, monogrammed and gilt-edged, sold in the silk- and leather-lined cases the line was known for. A closed production window of four years makes surviving complete sets uncommon.
