Item Type: Pre-Loved
Two glass objects that refuse a single role: egg cups at breakfast, candle holders at dinner, liqueur glasses when the occasion calls for it.
Clear blown glass, softly weighted at the base. The form is compact and precise, 5.3 cm high and 5 cm across, with a gentle taper that makes each piece feel considered rather than functional. The glass has a quiet clarity to it, clean without being sharp. Designed by Joe Colombo for Italora in the 1960s as part of the Arno series.
Joe Colombo was one of the most inventive Italian designers of the twentieth century. Working from his Milan studio from 1962, he approached every object as a problem in living: how people move through space, how they use things, how form might serve multiple needs at once. Italora produced the Arno series during the height of Italian industrial design, when the country's glassmakers and manufacturers were producing objects that still hold their value and relevance today. Colombo died in 1971 at 41; his work remains in permanent collections worldwide.
