A large round Italian woven basket with real presence — the kind of piece that absorbs a corner of a room, a stack of blankets, or a collection of things that need somewhere to live.

Close-woven rattan construction throughout, with a sturdy base and deep sides. At 38.5 cm diameter and 32.5 cm body height, it holds its shape well. The outermost weave layer shows some localised damage, consistent with age and use — the inner structure is unaffected and the basket stands solid. Weight 1.2 kg. Total height with handle approximately 45 cm.

Italian rattan and wicker basketry of this scale was produced throughout the postwar period in workshops across central and northern Italy, supplying domestic and export markets with storage and utility pieces. Construction at this weight reflects a piece made to last, not to be decorative.
